Lumbini is a city located in the Rupandehi district of Province No. 5 in Nepal. It is a pilgrimage site for Buddhists. In 1997, UNESCO declared Lumbini as a World Heritage site. According to the Buddhist scripture, it is believed that it is the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. It is a place where Queen Mahamayadevi gave birth to Siddharta Gautama in around 563BC. There are many temples in Lumbini one of the famous temples is Maya Devi temple, China temple, Korean temple, and many temples are under construction.
Lumbini has a number of older temples, including the Mayadevi Temple, and various new temples, Founded by Buddhist organizations from various countries. Many monuments, monasteries, and a museum, and the Lumbini International Research Institute are also within the holy site. Also, there is the Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he had his first bath. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, then achieved ultimate Enlightenment and finally relinquished their earthly forms.
The best time to visit Lumbini is in October and November. This month the weather starts cool down after the monsoon season, and the sunrise and sunset views are the most attractive. This is the autumn season and the temperature ranges between 12C-28C. December-February should be avoided in Lumbini as it’s too cold and the temperature sometimes gets as low as 2C.
The best way to reach Lumbini is from Gorakhpur. Better to travel from your city to the Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh via train, flight or taxi or bus which fits in your budget.
