Legend has it that he came upon a clearing where he saw a sight that left him wonderstruck. A tiger and a goat stood side-by-side, drinking water from the same place in the Tawi River. He was so struck by this unusual sight that he decided to build a city on this land where no living creature seemed to bear enmity towards each other.  Bahu Fort:-

An important addition to any Jammu sightseeing session is the Bahu Fort. Dating back to the 18th century this fort was built by Raja Gulab Singh of Dogra Empire. It is located at the opposite of Jammu’s Old Town, at an elevation of 325 meters. The thick fortified walls of the structure are built using black mortar and lime. Though there are many attractions inside the Bahu Fort, the most famous one is Mahakali Temple which was built back in the eighth century.Believed to be one of the oldest structures in Jammu, this ancient fort was built about 3000 years ago by Raja Bahulochan. Refurbished and renovated in the 19th century by kings of the Dogra Dynasty, Bahu Fort comes with an interesting back story. It is believed that Raja Bahulochan’s brother, Raja Jambu Lochan spotted a tiger and goat drinking from the Tawi River—surprisingly, the tiger did not attack the goat—and took that unlikely act to be a divine sign for peaceful coexistence. As a result, the city of Jammu was established right on the banks of the river by Raja Jambu Lochan.
